Which is what exactly? Many of the Netflix originals are shot in 4K now and are absolutely fricking gorgeous.

thats why they are spending so much on increasing their catalog. you want to watch show A but they dont have show A for whatever reason? well here is show B, C, and D that are all similar to show A. or they dont have show A? that sucks, but you also want to watch show B, C, and D so you pay for that because you get three of the four.

How much more per month are you willing to pay for this? I would assume regardless of what they say rates will increase, they are doing it in other less profitable markets. 15$ a month, 20$?

Just based on what I can tell from their marketing strategy, they're probably banking on increasing market share rather than increasing price point. They're still only in about a third of American households. I think they see the password-sharing cohort (largely, single Millennials) as small and insignificant in the grander scheme of themes, hence why they sorta/kinda dropped their password-sharing crusade. They also still see themselves, perhaps not unfairly, as the best option for American television content in China.

I think it's a market share play rather than a margin play. They can probably finance it pretty cheaply through debt.

That's incredibly inconvenient. Again, I realize that's what neflix is but that's why Indont value it as high. Right now, I want to rewatch the Harry Potter movies in preparation for Fantastic Beasts (the new trailers haven't been good :_( ). I absolutely will not watch Titianic (the number 4 suggestion when I type in Harry Potter) to accomplish that. When I want to watch something, I want to watch that and nothing else. Especially right now in my movie watching life where I'm definitely trying to find niche or rarer movies

That's nice. I could never enjoy it at my apartment. I live in an old building and the wifi isn't that great. I don't want to be stuck streaming.

I know I sound like I'm arguing but I'm not. I just think for me and a lot of people I know, Netflix isn't really offering the sort of service that I look for.

So your cable provider has EVERYTHING you might ever want to watch?

Yeah I was confused by that line of thinking as well.

Although, Netflix + Amazon solves all that dude's problems.

Someone more knowledgeable, please answer: would it be worth the while for the likes of Netflix and Sony to get into the internet providing game too? Even if I dump Comcast, they still have me by the balls with internet service...and if I DID drop my cable package with them, it'd nullify that silly "bundle" deal they're supposedly giving me, and they'd just give them an excuse to hike up the price of my monthly internet service. Is it an issue that Netflix/Sony can't do it, won't do it, or something else?

Isn't The Crown the most expensive show they've ever made by far?

I don't give two shites about the royal family, but this does look intriguing.

It's not "more content", it's more original content. I think this is a bad move. If they weren't taking on more debt it wouldn't be as bad. They have a lot of good content, but more and more of it is complete crap. Has anyone tried watching "Haters Back Off"? How the hell does something like that get green lit?

Will they be able to create their Game of Thrones or Walking Dead? I don't think so if they keep throwing money at so many flops.

I may be missing something and I haven't done a lot of research, but isn't net neutrality when carriers block access or throttle speed to other competing websites and such?

Net neutrality means carriers CANNOT do that.

They're going to hit an "original content" wall. At least as far as quality goes. There are too many options for the talented creators to distribute their movies/series. And we don't even know who the next big video distribution company will be.

which is why you can now watch Netflix on your TV through your cable company. It's not only available through your laptop

I'm not approaching Netflix as a channel. I don't watch enough tv for that to be relevant. I think about it more of a movie watching device

So long as some of that $3B goes to a KOTOR-era Star Wars series, I say it's a good idea.

And that's something you could do on your TV now. If you don't like streaming something, you can still access Netflix on your TV and watch a movie through that instead of going out to a redbox and renting something

I would be in favor of Hollywood partnering with Netflix to offer new release movies to be available via Netflix at the same time they are released to theaters.

But I realize that's a pipe dream.

I don't get it either. What option provides anything that you could possibly want to watch exactly when you want to watch? I don't see Netflix not having everything ever made as a criticism. It has enough of what I want to be worth the few bucks I spend on it.
