If you like documentaries, history, and music, make sure to watch Muscle Shoals.

You'll find out what Lynyrd Skynyrd means in the lyric, "Muscle Shoals has got The Swampers"!

It's quite good.

Is this the same one that ran on Alabama PBS a while back?

Great doc. Crazy to think the Stones recorded there.

Yes. I was astounded to learn that the same studio musicians, "The Swampers" , were the musicians for so many great hits from so many great artists. Percy Sledge, Aretha Franklin, Steve Winwood, etc.

Just some good ole baws making iconic black American R&B, Soul, Rock, Southern Rock, etc.

You're right, it was very entertaining.

If you haven't already, check out the doc on the Wrecking Crew. They practically laid down the music for half the pop tunes of the sixties and seventies.

I've watched it multiple times. Hits all the right notes. Tells a compelling story while being extremely entertaining.

It's my go to when telling somebody out here in Colorado where I'm from. "Yea I'm from a small town in Alabama called Muscle Shoals, there's a documentary on Netflix about it check it out!" Always get excited if somebody has watched it. Small town Alabama changed the music world.

I bumped into Little Richard in Florence(across the river from Muscle Shoals) and he was giving out photographs of himself to people on the street. This was in the early 70s.

He had been recording at Fame studio. I walked into the bank and some sweet little blue haired lady asked me, "what was that?"

The Wrecking Crew documentary is great. Another good one is "Standing in the Shadows of Motown." I had no idea the Motown sound was basically a small group of guys who played together all the time in the studio and in local clubs.

Btw, I don't think it was until the Muscle Shoals documentary came out that I knew what that line in Sweet Home Alabama meant.

Sound City is another doc that is very similar and equally as enjoyable as Muscle Shoals. In fact it might be even better.

I was very familiar with these guys because of my parents telling me all these stories about them growing up. It was great to finally see a documentary and hear them tell the same stories themselves and many other stories that I was unaware of.

I watched muscle shoals this past weekend based on your post. I had never heard of this documentary before and didn't know about the music studios there. Really Really enjoyed it, awesome nostalgia.

Thanks for the post

Kind of cool how the swampers got back with rick hall at the end and mixed that one song/album. Was it Alicia Keys?
