Need a Certain Type of Scary Movie Suggestion

So I just watched Dracula Untold, which I enjoyed thoroughly, and was looking for some more suggestions along its lines. I love "scary" movies that have plenty of violence, but aren't your typical horror film. They have great atmospheres that you get lost in, which really almost makes the movie, if you watch them for that reason.
I'm talking about films like From Hell, The Wolfman, The Raven, Sleepy Hollow, Van Helsing, etc. Almost like horror period pieces.
Who can help me out with more suggestions like these?

so you're only looking for average at best horror films, not anything actually good?

I watched The Babadook the other week and thought it was really scary. more of a psychological horror than jump scares... not a ton of violence though, so not sure if you would be interested

Yes, actually. It's more about the atmosphere of those movies for me. They're just fun movies, y'know?

Texas chainsaw series
The devils rejects
The thing
Wolf creek
Not really period pieces but they all take place in a pretty unique setting.

The old Universal monster movies have good atmosphere plus they're actually good movies. Watch the original Dracula, Frankenstein, and Wolfman for starters.

So horror movies that kinda play out like big budget Action/Thriller with an extravagant setting type movies??
Hmmmmm.
Constantine
The Brothers Grimm
Prometheus
30 Days of Night
ETA if you end up watching the Universal Moster movies watch Monster Squad afterwards. Just a fun movie that pays homage to the golden age of horror flicks.

"The Thing" (Carpenter's version)
"Prince of Darkness" (ditto)
Not one of my favorites, but the "Underworld" series would certainly fit your general criteria.
seconding the "Let the Right One In" suggestion. Or get the American remake "Let Me In", which is almost as good, hipster disdain for remakes notwithstanding. Neither are particularly violent (being American, the remake is slightly more so), but both are highly atmospheric. Both are very strong, with subtle nuances distinguishing them
"Stakeland" is a surprising little gem, set in a post-apocalyptic milieu. Not a huge budget, so it's not as 'clean' as some of the ones you mentioned.
"House on Haunted Hill"
ditto on the Universal Horrors (I personally own all the Legacy collections) but they're hardly filled with violence in a modern horror sense.
"Near Dark" is one of the more 80s horror movies around (the 80s are a period, right?) that often seems to be shamefully forgotten nowadays
If you like the atmosphere of Guillermo del Toro's stuff, "The Devil's Backbone", set around the Spanish Civil War, is definitely worth a look.
Those are off the top of my head. I'm not really a fan of the "Van Helsing"/"Brothers Grimm"/etc stuff, so my suggestions may or may not click with what you're asking for.

Hansel and Gretel was surprisingly solid.
Primarily, you should watch:
Ravenous
immediately. It's exactly what you're looking for. Horror period piece and super unique. No other film like it, honestly.
Also Brotherhood of the Wolf is probably right up your alley.
I'd also suggest The Guest from this past year, that might work for you.

Hansel and Gretel
Also if you haven't seen them, The Blade trilogy is the kind of thing you're looking for.
Also "Silver Bullet". Steven King, werewolves, Gary Busey. What's not to like?
