Just got finished watching Last of the Mohicans for the 900th time and this scene is still the GOAT. The music, the action, everything.

fricking awesome.

To me, it's maybe the best extended sequence ever in a film....it is the probably finest blend of music, location, realistic action, acting, and overall classy badassness.

The opening 5 minutes and the closing 20 minutes of Last of the Mohicans are perfect cinematic work. As much as I love Kubrick, 1990s Michael Mann is my favorite director ever.

Mohicans, Heat, The Insider........ballgame.....

I agree... just finished watching it.

And for those of you that worry about kids with their noses stuck in their Ipods and phones, my 12 year old walked through the den while I was watching it. He said "Last of the Mohicans? Can you record it?"

There's hope after all.

I saw it on last night as well and watched the last 30 minutes just because of the scene your talking about. The scenery, music, hatred for Magua, and the vengeance of a father in that last scene is perfect. Seen it a 100 times but when he hits him the 2nd time and breaks his arm at the elbow I still cringe.

location

I think I became glued to those mountains after watching this movie as a kid. That part of the country is my favorite place to be by far.

Of course, the state of NC took over the area where the scene was filmed and I'm pretty sure that trail is closed or has been heavily modified (in the name of safety) and reopened. Unfortunate.

Sicilian Scene in True Romance is way up there (RIP Tony Scott) (ETA: Damn drexyl - I saw it, then forgot it was there - it must have influenced my answer.)

Speaking of Michael Mann, the diner scene with Pacino and Deniro in Heat has to be a contender for this category, too.

Perfect film and one of the best movie scores ever.

The iconic scores of other movies (like Jaws, Star Wars, etc) are often placed above it because the score is so associated with the movie itself, but the music in LOTM is absolutely stirring.

Last of the Mohicans is on BBC America right now. I guess I'll be staying up late tonight.

Does is get any better?

I watched this movie probably 5 times before I turned 12. My parents always had it on.
