It could be argued that the Dawn of the Dead remake was on par/better than the original.

No it couldn't.

Probably more a retelling/reboot than a remake, but Jack Palance's Dracula was good and underrated.

(Without checking imdb, it may have been a TV movie anyway and doesn't coun't so disregard)

All the King's Men.

The original somehow won 3 Oscars, but the Sean Penn version is better and more faithful to the novel, IMO.

Ocean's 11 remake is WAYYYYYYYYYYYY better than the original.

The original had some of the biggest names ever to live and still sucked.

Completely disagree. Remake was better.

ETA: Even if you think the original was better, "not near as good" is an exaggeration.

The latest Planet of the Apes have been really good. I guess those would technically be prequels to the original Heston one though.

The bad news bears remake was pretty good. Some of the movies listed are sacred to a lot of people so any remake is a sacrilege even if it is pretty good.

Clooney's Oceans 11 was better than the Rat Pack original

The 3:10 to Yuma Remake was better than the original

Dredd was better than Judge Dredd. I actually really enjoyed it.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is a very good remake of a terrific TV miniseries. It captures the mood of the book perfectly and has a tremendous cast. Plenty of people don't care for it because they can't follow the plot and there aren't explosions. It definitely helps to have read the book. But if you like dark cerebral movies this is one of the best that's come out in a while.
