The Natural
Don't read the book though, big departure.

The problem is that it might be the best montage ever. You learn more about the characters in those 5 minutes then you do in most movies. It just happens to be brutally sad.

Not going to lie. Now that I am older the, "Hey, dad? You wanna have a catch?" scene in Field of Dreams gets me.
Everytime. It doesn't help that I used to catch for my little brother that passed away. Makes me think of him everytime.

The ghosts didn't know where they were, do you think he knew Costner was his son before he called him dad?
Yes. Even though the ghosts didn't know where they were, they knew Ray. I'm going to venture a guess and say that although the ghosts were they're younger selves, they still had the memories from their entire lives.

Another one that makes me cry is Candyman. I'm never gonna get that $10 back.

- Ricky Schroder in The Champ
- The end of It's a Wonderful Life when all the people that George helped show up with money
- The end of Old Yeller
- When Bambi's mom gets shot
- When Dumbo's mom is in the cage and he comes over and she picks him up with her trunk and rocks him. (Goddammit why did I remember that scene, now I'm getting all choked up)

And see, I've always completely disagreed with that. Sure, it's sort of sad that they couldn't have kids or that they never were able to go on their adventure, but the bottom line is that he got to spend almost his entire life living with and adoring the girl of his dreams. And in the end, it all comes full circle when he sees the book and realizes that he was all she ever needed and that the life and happiness he gave her was all the adventure she needed.
Everybody loves to talk about how sad and depressing Up is, but I've always kind seen is as quite the opposite. I can only wish to find happiness like Carl.
As for movies that get me choked up, I'll go with my normal responses for this thread:
- Forrest Gump when he talks to Jenny's grave.
- Armageddon at the end when Chick's son comes running out toward him on the tarmac.
- The Patriot when the daughter finally talks and is like "I'll say anything you want, just don't go.."
- Field of Dreams's "Wanna have a catch?" is up there too.
I feel like if those don't get your emotions flowing a little then you have no soul.

pretty much any movie where a dog dies after becoming emotionally invested in the dog.

King Kong
I took my son to see King Kong and didn't realize that he had never seen the original. I just assumed that his generation had been inundated with the spoiler for the ending, as my generation had.
I saw him crying and felt terrible for not warning him.
