Monsters University Was Cars 2 Bad

I was so disappointed. I dare say it was worse than Cars 2. So unoriginal and a sequel/prequel was just unwarranted and this is coming from a fan of the first. I didn't even hear many laughs in the audience and it was mostly kids. It really missed the Boo character. The plot is almost identical to The Internship, btw. A team of misfits must compete in competitions to win over the mean boss's approval. Pixar used to be a trusted brand. Now, it's no different from any DreamWorks/Disney cartoon. I know it was a Disney film but they had so many missed opportunities with the college life style like drinking and what have you. Instead they resorted to jokes like "staying up past your bedtime" now that they are on their own. Pixar used to put out films all ages could enjoy. This is just for kids.

Well, we have two supposedly great ones coming up with "The Good Dinosaur" and "The Inside Out". Particularly interested in the later, which seems like a pretty incredible concept to me that could get them a best picture nominee.
But I'll be seeing this, and hopefully I feel different. I've been hearing it's more "Revenge of the Nerds" meets "Monsters Inc.", which I'm still pretty perplexed about. I just don't understand how you could make a college movie that's rated G. It just doesn't seem realistic, even with something as ridiculous as Monster's Inc.

Think about what you're saying here. You're miffed that Disney didn't make a drinking reference in an animated movie marketed to kids. Just think about that for a sec.

Pixar is known for being creative. They could have had a monster pass out from drinking 20 root beers for all I care.

Non-realistic college lifestyle....... in an animated kids movie about monsters. You don't say.

Disney is going full moral high ground these days. They just completely revamped their Jedi academy in the parks because they received complaints about the storm troopers that are part of the show pointing their fake lasers at the kids.

They're placing this one really tight to the chest, but some sort of Inception thing going into a girl's mind. The concept really intrigues me.

Pity they can't revamp the idiots who actually complained about that.

What did you dislike? Did I hit all of the points?

BTW, one of the main Monsters looks like a Monster version of the fat boy scout from Up.

shite. Prepare for An Up sequel then.

Pixar is at its best when they have original content. Both the jokes in Cars 2 and this were stale because we already heard them the first time. Toy Story 2/3 are the only films that added to the legacy. I guess that gives me hope with Star Wars knowing the writer is the only reason Toy Story didn't turn into this.

To be fair this is only their third series with a sequel, one of which blew in the first place and was certainly only made for merchandising.
