Rest in Peace

quote:

“With Infinite Love we announce that Michael Nesmith has passed away this morning in his home, surrounded by family, peacefully and of natural causes,” his family said in a statement, according to Rolling Stone. “We ask that you respect our privacy at this time and we thank you for the love and light that all of you have shown him and us.”
quote:

The Monkees was a pop and rock band that took over the music world from 1966 until 1970.
quote:

The original group consisted of members Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork, Davy Jones and Nesmith.
quote:

Jones died in 2012, and Tork passed in 2019. Nesmith and Dolenz, 76, performed in Chicago on their farewell tour just last month, with Nesmith saying the group’s impact was “more than I ever imagined.”

His mom invented liquid paper and he was behind the idea that became Mtv. Definitely led an interesting life.

well damn. Another one bit the dust. Loved the Monkees when I was a kid and watched the reruns. So Mickey is the only one left.

He also produced Repo Man (1984).

I literally did a deep dive on the Monkees like two nights ago. Ended up reading about their appearance on Boy Meets World. He was the only one who didn't show. From a writer:
quote:

They ordered me to enlist Mike Nesmith, too. Micky had warned me this would never happen, but I valiantly tried; called Mike Nesmith at home. He listened to my pitch and, after a rather long moment of silence, in his slow Texan drawl, he flatly told me "I'd really rather not." Micky explained that, for years, Mike was not very anxious to appear as a Monkee -- he'd moved on.

Wiki is saying gunshot wound to the head as cause of death according to a statement issued by the family.

ETA: Now it is saying natural causes. They changed cause of death in the last 5 minutes.

He was seen this morning with Alec Baldwin, so that makes sense.

Yeah, he didn't like reliving his Monkees days.

Kind of like Max Baer and The Beverly Hillbillies, and Ginger from Gilligan's Island.

He was a pioneer in independent video. He won the first long form video Grammy.

He famously produced and co-wrote Timerider: The Adventure of Lyle Swann. He and his friend were standing in line to see a movie and discussing the sorry state of films, and came up with the plot for Timerider before they entered the theater.

Never would've predicted him to be the last Monkee standing.

Peter Tork used to joke that eventually one of them would be standing on stage alone, singing "Hey Hey we're The Monkee."

He wrote one of my favourite songs 'Different Drum' that Linda Rondstat had a hit with. RIP Mike!

This one hurts. I learned about the Monkees in 1986 when MTV exposed them to a whole new generation. RIP Mike.

When I was a kid for some reason I thought the Monkees were somehow related to Star Trek.

The Monkees also opened for Jimi Hendrix several times. It was not a good match musically but they like each other as people.
