Tom Cruise‘s next Mission: Impossible movie is departing the 2024 box office calendar. The eighth installment in the action spy franchise appears to be dropping the second half of its previous title, Dead Reckoning, Part Two, with a new title expected to be announced at a later date.

I guess with at least a 2 year gap for the "conclusion" movie, you have to change the title

quote:

Paramount and Skydance have pushed back the film back to May 23, 2025, off its previous date of June 28, 2024. The feature shut down production to allow for star Cruise and the cast to promote Dead Reckoning, Part 1. Then the SAG-AFTRA strike hit in mid-July, which meant the cast could not return to work on the film, which hails from director Christopher McQuarrie.

Tom Cruise's last few movies have been a complete shitshow when it comes to releasing.

I think the title change has more to do with the first one being a box office disappointment. Don't want to remind people it's a sequel to a dud of a movie.

It was really good, actually. Killing off Rebecca Ferguson’s character was a mistake. She was awesome. But, it was a good movie that got upstaged by Barbie and Oppenheimer mania.

Looking forward to the next one.

i mean i wish that sort of thing, but just thinks she's a beautiful lovely actress.

not my style if i'm going with Hollywood actresses i have a thing for (Atwell way more fits that mold) but i can't disagree with her.

Exactly. That's also why they ar delaying it. I guarantee it.

They're delaying so they make the public forget about the first one and remarketing the sequel as it's own independent 'Tom Cruise event' film.

Wiki says both parts were shot back to back and wrapped in 2021. Hard to believe reshoots could add a year.

That was Paramount's own fault, they could have moved the dates. The head of IMAX productions...

quote:

“The dating of releases, especially on big movies, is a common problem. It's a pretty crowded summer. We wanted to play both movies as much as we could because Mission is going to be a great picture in IMAX, but they [the studio], dated the movie right behind Oppenheimer. We wanted to get them to move it, to create more time to play both in IMAX to the full extent that they both wanted, but it didn't work out. That's not our decision – that's the studios’.
