people said the same thing about Disney when they took over Star Wars and Marvel
edit to add - i was one of those people. i thought Disney buying Star Wars was SAVING it.

I like this actress but I hope they do something different instead of "oh look at quirky cute me, ooopps now I have superpowers AHHHWWWHHHAAATTTT?!?!??!!?"

Gunn hasn’t missed yet and MFers are already crying.
Some are just programmed to whine when something isn’t centered around the standard straight white dude.
Gunn knows what he’s doing
No one is whining about a female Supergirl that has been done plenty of times already. They are discussing the need/want of a movie about her. Nothing to do with woke, neckbeards, or any of that stuff.

but It's pretty clear you can't have a normal discussion on this.
look, i understand and can appreciate your perspective and willingness to give everything a fair shot based on its merits as a stand alone piece of entertainment. that said, i dont see how anyone can ever be surprised when there is a cynical response to movies like this continuing to come out. there has been a steady stream of shitty girl boss movies coming out oh Hollywood for nearly a decade, and that is nearly indisputable. you can argue that they're shitty movies that just happen to have girl bosses or they're shitty movies BECAUSE they have girl bosses or some mix of the two, but the fact is, they are shitty, and they are legion.
then what appears, on the surface, to be yet another girl boss movie gets reported on coming out, and the usuals on this board are, in my opinion, understandably cynical about the quality and intent of the film. then like clockwork, the REST of the usuals on this board act completely shocked and offended that anyone would ever question the pure motives of the wonderful people in Hollywood just trying to make great movies.
so yeah, it is impossible to have a normal discussion on these kinds of movies. but that is not due to the "incel neckbeards". it's due to the ideologues in Hollywood who have dragged us into this reality.
downvote away.

I understand this sentiment. However, I have a strong desire to see a Superman film that is compelling, emotional, and lends to newer Superman films with the same actor. I want this to be so good. The footprint is there. There are tons of material that people love available. Its hard to frick this up but they do it time and time again. Superman and Batman are two of the most popular superheroes and it should be easy to start a universe around them. Supergirl can have a part in that universe but, damnit, it has to start with Superman, alone.

I personally can't see myself seeing this movie. I never watched the old Supergirl or the TV show. Outside of Scarlett Witch, I have a hard time thinking of a female super hero I really liked. I'm probably having a brain fart and there are more but it's not many. So this isn't really something that's up my ally fwiw.

There's cynical, and then there's a comment like this when only the actress playing the girl has been released and nothing else...

Yeah, but they were pushing Supergirl with no nefarious intent.
Modern woke Hollywood azzholes are hateful little pieces of zhit with an anti-white, anti-male agenda.
Sorry you either can't see that or simply won't admit it.
That's just a retarded reaction to a casting, I'm sorry. Yes, Hollywood has proved itself to be pretty bad with girl boss movies, I'm not a fan of them. But I'm not going to just jump to full retard mode and say this is being made for nefarious reasons when it's being done by a director that is not know to be that way at all. And yes, I can honestly understand why someone would call that guy an "incel neckbeard" when that's your normal response to a casting announcement of a girl you've never seen act or know anything about the story.

you are certainly entitled to your opinion. but incel neckbeard or not, their (ok, "our" is probably the right word here tbh) initial cynical response is almost certainly correct. what female superhero (or other girlboss variant) driven movie in the last 6-8 years has been good? wonder woman. is there another one? maybe one or two. but there have been literally dozens of really shitty ones that are virtually all the same.
that said - i will acknowledge that james gunn is solid and does leave some room for hope on this one
but unrelated to that debate...
Helen Slater from the 1984 Supergirl was a total smoke show. something i think we can all agree on.

Supergirl...just what the people were clamoring for!!
Well her TV show lasted five years so there is clearly an audience. AS for super girl needing to be hot, that not her, Super girl is pretty, Power Girl is hot. Milly would make a decent one.
