Great movie. dialogue is great. long takes. Borgnine nailed it. Shortest movie to win best picture.

i got interested in Chayefsky after seeing Network (which is written wonderfully). i will watch The Hospital next with george c scott.

One of the great sad movies of all time, but also kinda uplifting. Brilliant performances.

I have always wondered how people felt about Marty if they saw him play the sergeant over the brig in From Here to Eternity two years earlier. I think Academy voters seeing that kind of range is one of the reasons he won.

I had seen him in a likable role in McCale's Navy as a kid before I saw FHTE, but I bet a lot of movie goers in 1955 had a different image of him. I'm pretty sure he played bad guys in some westerns before Marty too.

Definitely a very good movie and a great performance by Borgnine.
