My God, that was emotionally draining. Affleck needs the Oscar for his work.

I'm very much looking forward to watching it.

Wait for a dreary, rainy, cold day... You don't want to walk out of the theater and it be sunny and 70 degrees

I really wanted to give 'ol Lee a hug after it ended.

Denzel was awesome in Fences, but I agree that Casey Affleck has to win the Oscar.

The scene where he and Michelle Williams bump into each other in town is one of the finest displays of acting in the last few years.

I don't know why you're being downvoted. It was what's going to get Affleck and Williams their Oscars.

When it first came out there were several people on the board that bashed the film:
Whether you like the film or not, Casey Affleck was fantastic

I don't want to see this movie if it's gonna depress me. Real life has enough sadness.

I don't either. The movie was okay and had some problems, particularly the score. But the performances were awesome, and the scene I'm referencing was outstanding.

Scene was so brutal emotionally.
Also, when he tells his nephew "I can't beat it", gosh, basically summarized the movie/his character.

It deserves to be bashed. They took about 40 minutes worth of material and spread it out over 2 1/2 hours. The parts that were good, were really good, but most of it was monotonous filler reinforcing some points that we got the first time they showed us.

The part where he broke down and was like "I can't beat this" had me all inside.

She should.

My gf (no pics) said the same thing.
That sort of stuff doesn't bother me. I actually thought it worked, it intentionally reinforced how everyone's monotonous and mundane life goes on while this one guy is just forever stuck in park.
I thought it was done fantastically, but I can see why it would detract from some people's experience.

Since Viola Davis is in the same supporting actor category, no she shouldn't. She was still very good tho and would put her 2nd

It's quiet and meloncholy...And rudderless.
I don't know why the reviews are amazing because regardless of the thin story and pace, the film feels lifeless and aimless like Affleck's character.
And I still don't quite believe the 96% RT rating or the 8.2 on IMDB.
Every once in awhile a deliberately aimless movie (and it is deliberate, the pace and filler in this movie) comes along that everyone is supposed to love.
I'd rather watch English Patient - and I'm with Elaine on this.

How is it aimless? It's quiet. It's moody. It's a bit long. But it's not aimless. It's a study of a man and his inability to overcome the never ending grief that came from one honest mistake. There isn't a happy ending, and the main character didn't learn anything or overcome the obstacles in his life. Kind of like the real world works for some people. Just because the camera work is minimalist and the acting understated, doesn't mean there isn't a meaning to the story. Jesus, I understand that art is subjective, but sometimes I think people can't appreciate a film unless there are in-your-face themes that are unmistakable and it doesn't last more than an hour and a half.
