But if being too much like Batman Begins is it's knock, then that's a pretty good sign. Batman Begins is one of the 3-4 best superhero movies of all time.

I couldnt agree more. I thought Begins was the best one of the trilogy.

Even if you "hate critics", you can still get a pretty good idea what the vibe is by an aggregation of reviews.

Critics as a collective don't just hate a movie to be cool.

Nolan's Batman trilogy was critically acclaimed. The Avengers was acclaimed..Iron Man, etc, etc.

Why would they suddenly think it's cool to bash Superman?

Maybe their criticisms are fairly accurate? who knows

The few bad reviews I read said it had too much action, was too much like batman begins, and should have taken more cues from superman returns.

Yeah I meant these were good signs rather than bad. They also said it was too serious and should have been more lighthearted. That's part of why Nolan's films are so good. He did what he tried to do, well. I also enjoy Adam west batman but its supposed to be different. Just like this is different from the original superman but that's intentional, and may be a good thing. Returns tried to be like the original and failed. That was its main problem.

"Light" Superman movies are like 3 and 4 of the old series. Too easy to go too far into camp. I'm glad they didn't try that.

I never expected MOS to get more than 75% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Several factors at play here:

(1) Their interpretation of the character will not be for everyone.

(2) I do think some superhero fatigue is starting to set in.

(3) Expectation level for this film, even among critics, might be a tad too high

That was the worst review I've ever read. She thinks way to highly of herself to be taken seriously

She has trashed every good movie imo the last few years while loving some of the crappiest. I dont think old timers should be allowed to review modern films.

Pretty sure she trashed the dark knight

This. It is possible it won't be great.

Avengers was/is the best superhero movie ever made IMO. And it was accurately around 90% on RT right before opening.

Oh, I am definitely going to watch it. I haven't read any reviews, just this thread.

My expectations are now tempered a bit, so I am set and in good shape to go see it.

that doesn't mean it properly translates to every fictional character around.

I agree that the Returns was too slavishly devoted to the Richard Donnor Superman movies but it ultimately failed b/c of a mediocre script. Superman becomes a bastard father, a stalker, and does nothing other than lift heavier and heavier objects while Lex Luthor is yet again ultimately nothing more than a villainous land developer. You can also add to that the horrible miscasting of Kate Bosworth as Lois, making Sam Huntington look like he was barely out of college even though Supes has been gone 5 years, and the pointless side characters played by James Marsden and Kal Penn.

great example of why I don't like RT (or really any sites like it)

I have read many a review that I felt were positive overall but were rated rotten by RT or bad by aggregate sites.

Did you read that review? It's pretty rotten, regardless of the grade he gave it.

I'm not worried about what critics are saying about MOS. One you have a lot of critics that have jumped on the Marvel/Disney bandwagon and think that if DC isn't mass producing movies then they suck. Two, you've got a lot of critics that don't like Nolan because he likes to put a twist on things and do it in a very mature and not really fun for kids type of way. When it comes to movies involving superheros that can hurt you. But what the critics fail to see is that DC has always been more mature than Marvel. (Not saying Marvel sucks just saying DC has dealt more with death, drugs, and abusive relationships, where Marvel has always gone the social problems route. Damn hippies.) Three, frick the critics, I'm going to see it anyways and I'm going to have a blast and talk about with my friends over a beer, while the critic have to sit in their office and figure out a way to write a provocative review of a movie so that they can keep their job.

Yeah, but check out his other reviews and he doesn't know whether he's coming or going.

Haha, what? I don't think the critics have an ulterior motive with regards to DC movies. They probably just didn't like it. And until you see it, disagreeing with their opinion seems silly.

I didn't disagree with their opinions. I disregarded them.
