Dude knew what the doctor said, ACL was shot. And what’s with Coach Gaines not even checking with the doctor himself just taking the players word for it. They don’t have a team doctor? POS

Crazy thing is, I just started the TV series today. 5 episodes in. Its pretty compelling.

The movie was pretty good too.

LV was in denial like Boobie because he was the ticket out.

How injuries are handled and treated now aren’t the same as it was in the late 80’s, in HSFB no less. I mean players were playing with concussions back then and not even telling anyone about it.

Even with what happened I never thought of him as a shitty person/character.

Yeah...it was the 80s...at a public High School?

Who the frick has a doctor affiliated to a H.S. football team, even now?

Our school had a nurse who had Tylenol and the coaches taped your ankles, if you didn't do it yourself. Injuries were your problem... To take care of yourself, on your time and dime. Come to practice healthy or hurt, they didn't care. Walk it off.

I get that, but Boobie actually went to a legit hospital for an MRI. Gaines doesn’t think to call the Hosptial and speak with the doctor himself for affirmation?

Are you under the impression that doctors just give out private information of their patients to people who call?

I tackled some guy head first, and got knocked silly in a game. I thought they came and carried me off the field. Monday morning at school everyone said I walked off myself. While I was standing, unattended, on the sideline I had my arms crossed. A few seconds later both hands were hanging down by my side. I didn't feel them fall. I crossed them back and the same thing happened again. That was freaking me out as I stood there.

The other team turned the ball over and someone yelled "offense". I played both ways so I ran out on the field, and played the rest of the game. I normally called the defensive alignment for my side of our defensive front. A DL buddy did it for the rest of the game. They all knew I was messed up, but it wasn't a big deal. People called it "getting your bell rung" back then. Nobody but doctors said concussion.

I have been epileptic, suffering grand mal seizures, since sixth grade. In today's world I probably wouldn't have even played football.

It’s one of my favorite show’s. There’s some plot holes here and there and season 2 is kind of weak because of the writers’ strike at the time but the rest is great tv.

It's honestly one of the better shows of all-time. Season two is complete garbage (one story line in particular), no doubt about it. But all the other seasons are so good it more than makes up for it. Love the ending too.

As far as the movie goes, the scene with Boobie crying in the car with his uncle was a tough scene. Very sad.

Small update (no, i won't be doing them the whole time):

I'm on episode 14 now and am all in. The Street stuff had me tearing up. I don't dislike any character. I root for all of them to do well. I don't know if its possible.

Not really sure why, but I grew to dislike Streets over time. I’m not sure if it was him or if it was how long they drew out his story.

I wish I had watched this when it originally aired because the backup QB's best friend is Todd from Breaking Bad and anytime he's on screen it just takes me out (especially since his FNL character is also an awkward weirdo like Todd).

That's the tv show. Uncle LV is from the movie.
