The guy is Lucifer and he is relegated to assisting police in their investigations. Seriously? Lucifer. The former Lord of Hell. The second most powerful being in the universe behind God. So powerful as to make Morpheus, one of the Unending, quiver with fear. And he's playing Shawn fricking Spencer.

It's based off the character from Neil Gaiman's Sandman Comic Book series that was spun off in to it's own comic book series.
