LOST (Spoilers)

So, I finished season 1; and almost halfway through season 2; and I was wondering if we ever find out the situation on the island (who, what, where, when, etc) or is it a wait all the way until the end kind of thing.

You find out what the Island is. There are hints along the way, but the Island's definitive purpose isn't explained fully until the final season.

Thanks. They just had a sit down at a built fire with the leader of "Dee utters" as Jin would say; so I was wondering if it's getting close or do they just deal with these minor conflicts until the end.

My daughter just started watching Lost on Monday. She has just about finished season one already.
