I don't really watch that much TV, but I just got Netflix and HBO Go, so I'm gonna start catching up on some shows I've never seen before

Just wondering if the television experts on this board could give me a little ranking of the series listed below:

-The Wire
-Sopranos
-Breaking Bad
-Rome

I'm all ears if you have any other good suggestions

All those are good. I'd add:

- Game of Thrones
- Walking Dead
- Spartacus: Blood and Sand

Depends on what you're looking for I guess.

I watch GOT. It's like the only HBO series I've ever kept up with.

A few notes:

-Boardwalk Empire was boring and I quit after 4-5 episodes. No thanks
-Same with Mad Men
-Couldn't get into Lost. Tried. Twice. Couldn't do it.

The only one on the list I have watched is Breaking Bad and would recommend. I am about to start Sopranos.

Yea, probably a good idea

I just don't get into "serious" TV shows

I like to laugh when I watch TV. I get bored with the serious stuff.

Deadwood on HBOGo is awesome.
Generation Kill is good too.

Forgot about Boardwalk Empire. One of my favorites.

Absolute shite compared to the comic.

The Wire is my favorite show of all time. Character development is second to none. You'll be able to name 50 characters and give a short bio for all of them once you get halfway done through the series. It's one of the most realistic shows I've ever seen. The producers of the show got actual thugs from the Baltimore streets with no acting history whatsoever to be in the show, and I thought that was awesome.

Breaking Bad's PLOT development is second to none. It's a show that you will find hard to watch one episode at a time. You will spend a lot of time marathoning episodes.

I'd start The Wire first since it's complete. Start Breaking Bad a little later in the summer so you won't have a long wait until it picks back up and ultimately end in August.

The Wire is the best series ever. Nobody has ever not liked it. Stop fricking reading this thread and go watch it NOW.

If for some reason you are still reading, the sopranos is great, I would watch it after The Wire. The first few seasons of Dexter are great as well. For a comedy Curb Your Enthusiam is one of the funniest shows I have seen.

Popular shows to save until last (ones I did not really enjoy)
Boardwalk - a much less bad arse sopranos, moves very slow. again a poor mans sopranos.

Weeds - I never saw what people did in this show, just never gave a shite about the characters.

No other show mentioned here comes close to sherlock. Plus it won't take you long to watch it, then watch it again.
