I saw the movie this afternoon, and thought it was excellent overall. I'm getting old (I just turned 76, so please have mercy on me), but I failed to understand a couple of points in the plot.
1. Why did Jimmy Logan return part of the money to the speedway?
2. When Agent Grayson (Hilary Swank) was coming on to Clyde Logan in the bar, was she still on the case, or was she wanting a share of the loot?

Still on the case. She was prolly the worst part of the movie

If the money was returned, the investigation would go to a back burner.
And no matter how much money was returned, the Speedway was going to tell the insurance company that a larger than normal amount was stolen.

No one had an actual count on the total money since it was cash and not counting the drops. They didn't know how much was stolen
