Doesn't it feel like it's becoming the Batman cinematic universe?

They're adjusting to what is working for them. Batman (Affleck), Harley, and Lego Batman are the bright points in their current offerings, so they're leaning towards those. At least they're not doubling down on what isn't working for them. They're still hesitant as frick to admit that they're working towards any kind of Green Lantern property, and that mistake was six years ago.

He's more important to DC as a whole. He's a better hero, a better leader, and a better character.

Post-90s Batman is emo-rage built into a plot device. Nightwing is a well-rounded character with real goals and flaws.

And the fact that he went from sidekick to leader is huge, one of the few heroes to do it and do it well.

One of the Top 5 heroes of all time in his own movie disconnected from the walking plot device? That's a good thing.

Dick Grayson >>>>> Bruce Wayne

And he might be the most important DC hero not named Kal-El.

It's like he's trying to check every female character in DC off his list.

Eta: Wasn't he "raped" by Tarantula?

Taking Nightwing's entire comic history into account, he's the best of the best. He started out as the "son" of Batman and as one of Superman's close friends. He chose the Nightwing name to honor both heroes (Superman had a Kryptonian crime fighting persona named Nightwing, patterned after Batman). So the guy grew up under the tutelage of the two greatest superheroes of all time.

If that wasn't enough, he was the leader and founding member of the Teen Titans. He ended up being a better leader (and a better team member) than Batman (who later in his career had issues with being a part of a team).

Batman acknowledged Nightwing's talents when it was revealed that, besides having dossiers to defeat the Justice League, he also had a plan in place to immediately replace the League if they were to die or disappear. He had a pre-planned membership listed out, automated messengers ready to assemble the team, and Dick Grayson selected as the most capable person to be leader.

GOOD NEWS! DC has heard your plea and decided to go with a 2 picture deal with the option for a 3rd movie on Nightwing.

On the off chance I'm actually psychic, don't count out Zach Snyder for director.

I think I may need mood altering medication. In the five seconds after reading the OP title I went from really intrigued and interested in a Nightwing film... to really negative.

I'm now kind of annoyed because I can't shake the fear that the guy from Lost is going to direct Zac Efron as Nightwing.

Chris McKay on Nightwing (Transcript from podcast)

quote:

"Bruce Wayne in my mind came from privilege and I think that's why he's more dour and angry. He's self-made as far as his becoming all of these cool things we like him for… Dick Grayson didn't come from that. Dick Grayson came from a circus family. Essentially people who aren't rich and they are self-made. They're entertainers. They're gymnasts. They're people who live hand-to-mouth and that's something that informs him and his attitude. He's a fascinating guy to me, because he had all the same things happen to him... He's got some of the same negatives as Bruce Wayne and then from a society standpoint - obviously he was adopted into Bruce Wayne's life… but he didn't start that way. He's this guy who's got all these negatives and then even more negatives, and yet he remains still a brutal fighter but he's not a playboy, he loves people dearly. Those things are why I like Dick Grayson, why I like the idea of Nightwing as a movie."

Pretty sure Breesus is pounding on Chris McKay's door with one hand, his Nightwing trilogy synopsis in the other.

It'll take me atleast a day to travel to his house.

Why isn't "good actor" a choice?

Because that's how you end up with Meryl Streep as Batman.
