Well at least we found out why there wasn't a show last week. The interview with Snowden was incredible. I can't believe he got it.

He got Edward Snowden to utter the phrases "I guess I never thought about putting it in the context of your junk" and "the good news is there's no program named the dick pic program. The bad news is they are still collecting everybody's information...including your dick pics."
ETA: "I guess on the plus side you might be able to go home because it seems like no one knows who the frick you are or what the frick you did."

Oliver absolutely killed it with that Snowden interview. Using dick pics to explain mass surveillance? That's something even the idiots can understand. Completely. Brilliant.

But i thought the dick pic bit went on a little. too. long
My only small complaint with the show is he makes so many salient points with his segments but loses them occasionally with the sophomore humor. despite the fact that i think hes funny as shite
Id like to see him strike a better balance somewhere between Colbert and Stewart. that said, its my favorite show on tv right now

I kinda agree with that, and sometimes his analogies are a bit of a stretch, but he's still pretty great and it's not usually hard to follow along with his points.
I disagree that this should be an every-night show though...I feel like it would be overkill and lose some of its luster if it aired that often. I dig it as a weekly slot better. Some of his rants are just brilliantly (and hilariously) presented.

Just watched the episode (or the 33 minute clip linked earlier), and that was pretty amazing. That was such a great interview with Snowden, because he not only put some of into terms people will relate to (dick pics), but he also took Snowden to task a couple of times and basically called him out for taking responsibility for some pretty sensitive information being released to the public.

LWT & Vice seem to be the only agencies that are doing indepth investigative journalism nowadays. Oliver even pointed out during the 33 minute segment on surveillance that a congressman was cut off during an interview for a Justin Bieber update. Which is absurd.

Exactly. It wasn't a bunch of coddling Snowden like most 'journalists' would've done. And he did it in hilarious ways.
