They died at different intervals throughout life.. The parallel was a purgatory of sorts to wait on each other when they were ready to move on. Jack died on the island in the last scene.

to clarify the island crash DID happen.
The sideways-verse (the last season flashes when hurley is trying to find everyone, the church, etc) was purgatory.

Eventually, but they didn't die in the crash. As Christian Shephard said "Some have been before you, some long after you." Everything that happened on the Island and in the real world actually happened. The side flashes were purgatory.

I refuse to believe anyone can watch the entire series and think they died in the crash. Like it isn't even possible to really believe that.

And those people shouldn't be listened to when it comes to anything LOST related. How can a rational thinking adult think "well, forget everything we saw over 6 seasons. Forget the speech in the last 10 minutes where it is point blank, clear as day spelled out for us. I'm going to read into 10 seconds of footage AFTER the FINAL credits that are ambiguous and don't really say anything, and take that over everything else we've been shown"?
