They should go forward with BSG: Blood and Chrome.

The cylons waited a long time after the first war to attack humanity again. This too could happen one day.

Set two generations before Superman arrives on Earth, Krypton will focus on Superman’s grandfather during a time when the great House of El was “ostracized and shamed” on his home planet. The hero of the story must fight to redeem his family’s honor and save his world from a yet unknown new enemy.

This is a very very shitty premise and does not draw people casaul viewers in.

I would set it up something like this....

It would chronicle the rise of General Zod as the head of Krypton's military and crises such as Faora running rampant after being jealous of Ursa, Kandor's border disputes, Jor-El and Lara's romance, General Zod's friendship with Jor-El and possibly being named Kal-El's godfather, Krypton's encounters with Braniac, New Genesis, Thangar, and Darkseid with the latter setting Krypton's Death in motion by interfering with its planetary core by preventing any heat from getting up into the surface, Jor-El's investigation and discovery of Krypton's impending death, Brainiac's attempts to stop Jor-El if they want to make Brainiac Kryptonian in orgin, General Zod's attempted coup of Krypton's ruling council and Jor-El's role in sentencing him, and then finally the death of Krypton and Jor-El and Lara sending Kal-El off to Earth as their world dies around them.

People want to see what Jor-El, Lara, General Zod, Non and Ursa looked like, their adventures and how modern kryptonian society functioned. Give that to them.

You can always jump ahead a generation between seasons. You want to give yourself some room since you know the entire planet is scheduled for demolition.

What are some good examples of this on successful shows?

Oh and btw, my plot twist on Krypton's death being set up and caused by Darkseid would actually be something interesting to watch instead of the usual causes like accidental kind, old planet, being swallowed up by a red star or mining it to death.

It turned Young Justice from a good series into an amazing series.

Alias did a great job of jumping forward between seasons.

Just keep most of the main characters and introduce the next generation of Kryptonians. Not saying you have to do it, but by keeping the series far from the death of Krypton you have room to play.
