Ken Jeong Comedy ‘Dr. Ken’ Gets Official Pilot Pickup At ABC

ABC has officially given the pilot green light to Dr. Ken, a multi-camera comedy starring Community‘s Ken Jeong. The project, from Sony TV and studio-based Davis Entertainment, was picked up along with the bulk of the ABC comedy pilots on Jan. 30. The last 10 days were spent hammering out a co-production deal between Sony TV and ABC Studios, which has now joined the project. With that in place, Dr. Ken is officially a pilot.

Written by Jared Stern (The Internship), Mike O’Connell and Jeong, who is a licensed physician and worked as an internist before quitting to pursue comedy, Dr. Ken stars Jeong as a frustrated HMO doctor juggling medicine, marriage and parenting, and succeeding at none of them. Stern executive produces with Mike Sikowitz, who serves as showrunner, and Davis Entertainment’s John David and John Fox. O’Connell and Jeong co-executive produce.

This marks The Blacklist producer Davis Entertainment’s second pilot this season, along with drama Endgame at NBC.

This is Jeong’s second comedy pilot, in which he plays a version of himself. He also has Ken Jeong Made Me Do It, which is still in contention at MTV. The ABC project is in first position. Jeong is a series regular on Community, produced by Sony TV, ending with the upcoming sixth season on Yahoo.
