Holy shite, we screwed those people. I have never been more disappointed in American leadership as I was when I was watching that documentary. We, and by we I mean Congress, wiped our asses with the Paris Peace Accords. Just goes to show what happens when you allow way too much political overreach in something like that.

I'm usually of the mindset that we should've minded our own business. But damnit, those people wanted our help and we straight up abandoned them. They wanted to be free and we told them that we would help deliver them their freedom and we just left them.

It was interesting, though, how right after Nixon resigned, all this went down. The Communists were scared of Nixon and when Ford came into office, they bitch slapped him and Congress. These people wanted our help to free them and went about it much differently than the ME people do it. They were willing to fight with us and they didn't balk at the way we did things. We could've beat the NVA all the way to Russia's front door if we were allowed to.

Again, this is what happens when you allow politicians to control the way battles are fought. Man, that was a disappointing documentary.

Don't ever let someone tell you that the US lost the war in Vietnam. We voluntarily fricked over a lot of people because of shitty leaders

I don't believe the US lost the war in Vietnam. I believe our "leadership" didn't have the nuts to see it through.

What did LBJ and GWB have in common? They were both owned by KBR, and war is good for business when you're KBR.

Tet is exactly what was wrong with this war. We decimate the VC but the US media declares it a victory for the north.

It's fricking scary the degree to which history has been rewritten regarding the Vietnam war.

Many people even think the Tet Offensive was anything other than a resounding defeat of the VC.

The US Leftist and media won that war.

Reminds me of the famous Charlie Wilson quote

quote:

These things happened. They were glorious and they changed the world... and then we fricked up the end game.

If we'd have gone on the offensive after Tet, the war would've been drastically different.

South Vietnam wanted, no begged, for our help. We carry the beacon of freedom for the world. If people want to be free, we should help them achieve that. Much like the French did with us in the Revolution.

Should we have told the Brits and French to frick off in WWII and not supplied them or came to their aid? What about the South Koreans in the Korean War? Which, by the way, we should've seen that war all the way through too.

Obviously a controversial war, but a very interesting one. My uncle was a Green beret in Nam and stayed there even after Saigon, mostly fricking around with MAC V SOG and the CIA in the north. I have been dying to write down or record some stories from him.

I didn't read any of our post but I've know. Multiple people that have Been in the area. The locals refer it to as "when we won the war," which is completely true

I watched and read enough about nam. The communists had an unlimited amount of troops owning in from china. They knew how to hit and run. Tet was a tactical win for us but a huge moral victory for the NVA and VC. Funny how this exact thing played out again in Iraq.
