I have heard the praises and accolades for this movie for over 2 decades. My son and I watched it together, and frankly we were both very disappointed. It could be that with all of the positive reviews it got combined with the huge cult following it has, I just built it up in my mind to unattainable expectations. I know I'm in the minority here, but I feel it was way overrated. At least I can check it off of my movie bucket list now.

I agree that it overrated, but still a decent movie.

context is very important

they didn't make movies like this very often until the 90s (and i know it's a ripoff of another movie)

the budget also needs to be taken into the overall context

Ok. Can you be more specific about why you weren't impressed?

I'm a big fan, but I did watch it when I was in middle school and had no expectations.

I don't like it either and I like all other QT movies.

It's just dialogue in the same location basically the entire movie.

I enjoy dialogue in movies but geez.. It's just a few guys in a warehouse freaking out.

This would make for a great theatrical play in person, but as a movie I'm just not a fan.

If I had never seen it and read your description I'd never guess something like 20 people get shot and killed

it's a problem with hyped movies...you go in expecting the second coming and you leave disappointed.

it's still a good flick

I think it's terrific.
Maybe my favorite QT movie.

I liked it better the second time I saw it.

I just didn't find it entertaining, and I dare say borderline boring. It also seemed to drag on for me as well. It wasn't nearly as funny as I'd heard either. Again, I realize that I'm in the minority. It was just built up to unrealistic expectations. As far as Q Tarrentino, I'm looking forward to Hateful 8 though.

Given all that, don't you think it is silly to say it is "way overrated". You would probably appreciate more had you watched it 20 years ago. The non-linear story line and the fact that it is a heist movie without really showing the heist make it unique even still. QT got alot of peoples attention with Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs. Those two films inspired alot of good movies that came after.

Same. Although I hated Kill Bill. I haven't seen Kill Bill Vol. 2 as a result.

The internet and a bunch of 30 and 40- somethings (like me) reminiscing about movies from the 90s seem to build decent flicks into these supposed classics.

RDs was a new style of movie at the time. I remember people saying it was good but nobody gushed over it.

Besides, it was just QT warming up for Pulp Fiction.

Wasn't a bad movie, but it doesn't deserve the amazing, all-time potential praise some people are giving it.
