I totally agree. Movies are supposed to be about the spectacle. Plays are limited in budget and SFX. Movies can fill in the SFX needs due to outrageous budgets.
Why make a movie version of a play if you're not going to at least fill in the SFX blanks? Why do it? Seems like waste of time and talent

Why do you all keep referring to the stage production of ITW as a "play"? It's a musical. Sondheim doesn't write plays. He is a composer and lyricist of musicals.

My 8yr old said it was stupid.. Glad I pawned that movie off on the grandparents.
