Just so there's no confusion, Skyfall is by far the best Bond movie

It's a better movie in literally every aspect of movie making. It's really not close either.

Just so there's no confusion, it's not even the best Daniel Craig "Bond" movie. That is Casino Royale.

I think that's a pretty popular opinion that Casino Royale is better. It understands Bond more as a character than Skyfall did.
Plus Spectre ruins a lot of that movie, with it being revealed Silva working for Blofeld, despite it making no sense. Silva had very clearly defined goals, and Bond was simply a nuisance to him. Silva was a mad dog who didn't require more than say 5 people to go in on his plan with him. All he really needed was personal security to do what he was up to, and Spectre just ruins it.
If anything, Blofeld would have had Silva killed since he is directly fricking up everything he's working for in the sequel. Really that should have been the first question out of Bond's mouth on how it is remotely possible Silva was affiliated with him.

Moonraker had a gondola that turned in to a car.

At first, I think Bond fans did not like the movie because of how different it was from what we were used to. It wasn't a "Bond" film. It was so grounded and gritty that it felt closer to Jason Bourne than to the Bond franchise, outside of maybe the Timothy Dalton era. But watching it now, it's painfully obvious how wrong many of us were. It deserves to be near, or at, the top of list when discussing great Bond movies. It is an excellent film, and is loads of fun from start to finish.

And Bond is just playing poker and drinking heavily for most the movie. It's perfect environment for the character.

Skyfall
Is very, very good for 2/3's of the film. But the 3rd act simply falls apart, and I have never understood why. They almost nailed it, almost had the perfect Bond film, and let it slip away. Then followed it up by making Spectre follow in the footsteps of the 3rd act, rather than Casino Royale and the first 2/3 of Skyfall.
Actually, I also really enjoyed Quantum of Solace, and think it's a very underrated film. But even if it were as bad as most think, it's still better than the final 3rd of Skyfall, and the whole of Spectre.
Skyfall was the best Bond film in one regard, mayyyyyybe two. Adele's Skyfall is by far the best opening credits song, and a slim argument can be made that Bardem's Raoul Silva is the best Bond villain in any of the movies.

And it gave us all of these pics that are perfect for putting Archer quotes on:

It is pure trash. Continuing to prove Trump has you totally unhinged.
Oh wait, the bad guys are everywhere. The only way to save you is to take you into the middle of nowhere with no weapons and lure the bad guys here...
and...
and...
profit?
Hey the movie even agrees with the way it ended.

If you read the books, Casino Royal and Dr. No are up there.
Bond isn't a super hero.
He drinks a lot in the dark, often with gun in hand mourning his wife...Fearing attacks. He's a real person and not a wisecracking playboy. A real person who has been hurt and an alcoholic.

I'll grant it that it's better than Spectre, but that movie drags Skyfall into the mud with it.

It may be the best-looking Bond movie.

I just realized something: wasn't one of the worst twists in history revealing that Austin Powers and Dr Evil were brothers? Did the writers of Spectre see that and think "great idea"? That was awful.
It is straight out of Austin Powers and done horribly. That movie was such a piece of shite.

quote:I actually think they're both two of the best, but Casino Royale just had an extra wow factor. And besides, after the over the top Die Another Day, it felt like the perfect film to bring out the core of Bond himself, not just the fancy gadgets.

And for a long time, whenever I felt like watching a movie after a night out at the bars, it was my go to favorite.
