From what I understand, this is one of those movies most people either love or hate.

I gotta go with the love category. Something about the whimsical nature of it just appeals to me. Plus Meg Ryan was actually pretty hot back then. And Tom Hanks gave an early indication of how great he would be.

Count me as one of the middle folk. I will say that I'm both shocked and happy that it was made in the first place.

Saw it at the drive-in during its original release. Didn't like it at all, and I'm a big Hanks fan.

I guess I should give it another watch.

I consider it a guilty pleasure, I know it's terrible, but like it anyway.

it's a great movie.

The office scenes are legendary.

ETA:

I've noticed this movie and humor polarize people like Hudson Hawk.

Volcano is really political if you want to delve into on the internet.

I love it. The scene in which Joe tells off his boss in itself is worth the time. That is maybe the greatest "take this job and shove it" speech of all time.

I absolutely love this movie

I can see it not being everyone's cup of tea but I really love it.

I looked for it on DVD forever before finally randomly finding it in a WalMart $5 DVDs bin

I like it too. It's an odd duck of a movie, but well done. Meg Ryan comes off as trying a bit too hard in both of the sister roles (hard to mess up a dumb secretary role), but she's still adorable, so it can be forgiven. A rom-com that manages to be this quirky should be admired, especially given how many of them, including other Hanks/Ryan vehicles, are just tiresome repetitions on a formula that seems to have forgotten the 'com' part of the deal.

I haven't watched it in years. Think I'll add it to my collection next time I'm shopping Amazon.

It is a perfect movie.

It sets out exactly what it intends to do.

Saw it for the first time a couple weeks ago. Pretty interesting. I liked it. I liked how they actually jumped into the volcano and there wasn't some cheap plot twist to let them weasel out. Caught it on HBO or Starz, don't recall which.

I'm in the "love it" camp. Actually, it's one of my favorite films. I own the DVD and watch it at least once a year.

On the surface, it seems whimsical and silly, but it's got a great deal of depth. The symbolism alone makes it worth watching, and I usually notice something new with each viewing. That scene in which Joe is on his raft with an unconscious Patricia and he stands up with the moon over the horizon is almost as if he is holding up the Eucharist. Very powerful.
