It's Always Sunny: The Show Without Frank

With IASIP getting renewed for a 12th season, it's easy to argue it has been, and will continue to be a hit.
How successful would the show be if the character of Frank Reynolds was never put into place. Digging even deeper, how sucessful would the show be if he was and someone other than Danny Devito was in the role.
In case you aren't familiar with how the role was filled...you can read the story here: LINK

quote:
"It's not that we were reticent to the idea of adding Danny to the show," Howerton recalled, "it's that we were reticent to add a name to the show. You know, because we kinda liked that we were no-names and it was this weird, small thing, you know."
McElhenney says they told FX: "No, I just don't think we wanna do that, and they were like, 'Oh OK, well, you know ... the show's over.'"

Season one was funny without Devito. The characters have evolved over time and not as realistic as they were in the early seasons. The show wouldn't have last without Devito which would have been a real shame.Honestly the show hasn't fallen off at all and I consider every season to have great episodes.

I think if Danny DeVito were to leave AISIP, it would make Charlie a much more flat character. The Frank/Charlie dynamic is one of the best parts of the show. Their relationship is so bizarre and kind of endearing that it would be a big loss to the overall arc of the show.
It also would require a little creativity to figure out how the gang can fund their awful ideas without Frank in the picture. And Artemis will be awfully lonely as she won't have anyone to get sweaty in a Wendy's bathroom with.
If money and ratings weren't a thing, I think AISIP would have been great with or without Frank. But now that he has become this really round character, it would leave a void in the show that I think would require a replacement. Maybe not a big name, but ... someone.

Like people have said. Season was is hilarious without him
But at this point it would be a huge loss.
They could still continue but it would just be weird without frank, very hard to replace
I fricking love this show

The first season without him was the kind of show that a few of us would have loved before it got canceled.
