Maybe, maybe not. There's no way they knew they were gonna make him gay in those early seasons. He's still pretty masculine, he talks to girls at the club for Frank, he wants to have sex with the body paint sorority girls, etc.

It didn't start creeping in until they brought the tranny in as a character.

The tranny was in the original pilot. The one they shot with their own handheld cameras.

Charlie Has Cancer was Season 1, episode 4. That episode was the first one with the tranny on TV. I think. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I know Carmen was in season 1.

Yeah he's always been in the closet and confused. Since season one.

Wasn't there an episode where each member of the gang essentially picked a person that would represent them? The avatar plan or something like that? Did Dennis find someone to be his avatar?

I don't think Mac being gay really started until after the tranny. I think after that episode they really decided to start going after Mac's sexuality. I think at the beginning he was straight, when Dennis got married they started Mac being in the closet jokes, and the last few seasons they haven't been subtle about Mac being gay.

Do you mean the second episode of the first season or the fourth episode of the first season?

Really the first episode could be seen like they were planning on it since mac was the biggest opponent to running gay bar. He was the most insecure about the entire idea.

Last season when Frank falls out the window he thinks he's in the year 2006. Charlie believes Frank is right and he tells Mac that since we are in 2006 he isn't gay yet. Mac also was the rebound for the women that went through the D.E.N.N.I.S system. Mac had issues with the tranny having a penis. When he is alone with the tranny he admits that his biggest issue is her having a penis.

I think he wanted to sleep with those women because Dennis had banged them.

I don't think he ever really acted ashamed until another member of the gang saw them together.

Maybe the previous season's Dennis, not this current season's Dennis. From the article I linked earlier he said:

quote:

I like the idea of taking a character who we’ve built up to be potentially a serial killer and realize that it may be the exact opposite. He may be an extraordinarily fragile and emotional person who has created a shell around himself to try to protect himself.

It's like . . . wtf? Completely different character.

Is anyone a little suspect that Dennis left the bar but didn't take his car?

I'm thinking that if he leaves the show for good, there's a good chance he was actually in it.
