Is there any chance we get a satisfying ending to GoT?

There are SO many important storylines that aren't complete and only like a dozen episodes. I don't see how they're going to satisfyingly wrap them all up without it feeling incredibly rushed or just killing off a bunch of people.

im sure they have a plan I'm just going to be shocked if they pull this off without it feeling incredibly rushed, especially since there is no source material to work from

I think so

Dany and Jon will team up to beat the WWs and probably marry.

Jamie will end up killing Cersie and probably sacrificing himself in the end to save someone thus fully redeeming himself from the first episode.

Arya and the Hound will team up again to take down Zombie Mountain.

Everybody is getting closer together, so I'm not sure what story you think is not going to get wrapped up?

A lot of characters are going to die though, that much is right.

That would surprise me. I realize that the show has drifted far from the books, but Martin has always said that the ending will be bittersweet at best, and will not necessarily be a happy ending. I would be surprised if Dany and Jon just stroll off into the sunset together when everything is said and done. One or both of them should die. Cersei should die. Gregor should die. Jamie should die. Sandor should die. I want Sansa to die. Arya can live.

Honestly the only thing really satisfying about the ending I could see would be Jamie and Sandor redeeming themselves and dieing a worthwhile death. They deserve that.

I think I remember GRRM saying he thinks the great majority of the readers will like the ending (I looked for the exact quote, but I can't find it). I think the show ending will be far closer to the book ending (at least, the ending as communicated to Dave and Dan) than a lot of people think.

I'm optimistic. However, I'm very confident in saying that there will be a relatively small portion of book readers who hate it no matter what.

To be fair, they decided on 73 episodes for a reason. If they thought they had 80 episodes worth of story, they probably would have asked for 20 more after last season.

It is very easy to kill off a bunch of people in a few minutes. Remember Winds of Winter or the opening scene from last Sunday? You don't need 12 episodes to wipe out whole family's or story lines.

The show ending is the only ending we are going to get.

She should die, it's the only good ending for her. She's a little assassin, she should go out in a blaze of glory. A feel good ending for her is cheap.

I was browsing the YouTube the other day after someone posted an Alt Shift X video and I came across this major crackpot theory that Bran is actually the Night's King.

If this happens I might drink for a long time.

To me it seems like they've already taken a much more straightforward, less involved approach. That's why I think questions about things like why Dragonstone was totally abandoned, why Sam had to rediscover what Stannis already told him, etc. are probably not gonna be addressed. Heck, they may not even address who is gonna get the Dreadfort.

These are not necessarily bad things. For a TV show, I guess they can only get into so many intricacies. I think for those we will have to wait and hope the books eventually come out.

I wouldn't like it, but it wouldn't surprise me. Bran's fingerprints are all over the history of Westeros.

That was the idea behind the theory.

Bran gains the ability to "fly" throughout time and tries to stop the Night's King.

He becomes Bran the builder and fails, so he builds the wall.

He tries to whisper into the Aeyrs ears to kill the WW with wild fire but fails and instead goes mad.

(First two I can go along with but he loses me here)

Using the sequence where the children of the forest has one of the first men tied down and stabs him with dragonglass to become the Night's King. The video author correlates that with the positioning of Bran at the same time in the Tree.

Also the God's Eye plays a huge role in the Night's King power as the spiral hieroglyphic represents it.

Edit: This ending goes will with GRMM shitty ending writing style. Jon will have to kill Bran to save all.

For one there's Gendry

I also think a lot of people were expecting The Hound vs. The Mountain at some point, but it looks like The Hound is heading for the wall so we probably won't get that.

But yeah, I think all of the main story lines will be wrapped up.

This would be the lamest ending to one of the best shows ever.

The way I always pictured the ending (well, maybe more the epilogue) was a very old person sitting by the fire in a castle telling the story of this long night to a bunch of kids - maybe their great grandkids or something.

Of course the person I used to picture in that role was a very old Rickon so that part of it is not going to happen. Maybe it can be Sam, Jr. or maybe somehow an ageless Old Nan (though they didn't feature her much in the show, so ...)

serious question...why on earth would that matter to the ending of the story?

Define "satisfying".

I think we will get massive dragon-on-zombie war between Westeros and the White Walkers but a massive amount of people including main characters die and Westeros becomes a shadow of what it was to start the series after vanquishing the zombies.

Almost all of the great houses have been destroyed or have no heirs left so I wouldn't be surprised if someone such as Littlefinger ends up on top after Dany and/or Jon die.
