Bought an Xbox One S tonight with 4k capability and got some movies with it (Civil War, Deadpool). However, I do not have the 4k tv yet, getting one next year some time. With that said, how much better is it then what is currently available?

Do you have a receiver? That has to be 4k as well.

Assuming he already had it, otherwise its going to be wasteful.

How does DVD quality video look on 4k TVs? I've stuck to DVDs because they look fine on my 720p TV. I'm wondering if I should get a 1080p TV this year while they're still available if all of my stuff is going to look terrible on a 4k TV.

After a few years of watching TV on our Panasonic Plasma 1080pi we decided to try a Samsung 4K /3-D.

The 4K is definitely sharper and clearer than any Plasma/blue ray I've ever seen.

We have Dish Network, I called them since I had been told that to fully experience the 4k effect you need to receive a 4K signal. The Dish people said that they started transmitting many of their channels in 4K starting this past April 2016. Dish says they plan to have more 4K channels in the coming months.

In my experience, you remember when tv's went from 60hz to 120hz?? I think it's that big of a difference.

I know the OLED 4K I seen in the store looked amazing, but I'm not sure if that was the resolution or the display technology that made it look so impressive.

I just remember when I was shopping for a TV a few years back and you supposedly couldn't tell the difference between 1080p and 720p unless your TV exceeded 60" and your viewing distance was less than ten feet away. But now all of a sudden resolution differences matter again, so I don't know what to think. All I can say is trust your own eyes.

Could have been the display tech. OLED blacks emit almost zero light, much better than any plasma, and far better than any LCD. It's also emissive like plasma and doesn't have the LCD viewing angle problems.

I suspect 4K amounts to hype for most people, but hey, like 3D, it gets 'em to buy new stuff, right?

The price of 4ks tv are now the prices of 1080 a couple years ago. Obviously there are higher priced ones available, but you can get a 50" Samsung 4K for like 450

Oled is where it's at right? Bigger jump going to oled from LCD than the jump 720 to 1080 or maybe 4K

Yes, oled is the future. But it is significantly more expensive at the moment

But 4K is still well worth it IMO. Especially if you're looking at buying a new tv anyway. I disagree with some people who say you can't tell a difference unless it like a 70 inch tv or you sit 5 feet in front of it. I can easily tell a difference on a 55 inch screen at a normal viewing distance. But im definitely picky when it comes to stuff like that and notice little things other people may not so I'm sure some people won't notice a big enough difference

They lied... DISH does not currently broadcast any channels in 4K. They just have a few events and on demand movies. I know for 100%, since I have a Hopper 3 setup.

And even if they were transmitting a signal in 4K, it doesn't matter if the show or whatever wasn't filmed in 4K
