Iron man has been pretty unimpressive since his first movie

Outside of kick starting the MCU and the initial movie has he really done anything productive other than causing all the controversy in the avenger movies and civil war?

Tony Stark is an a-hole. This isn't new.

I mean the whole universe whittles down to him and Loki being the villain on numerous occasions.

Besides taking a nuke through a wormhole?

Saving thousands of lives from killer robot suits.

Saving the president from being burned alive.

Etc.

If you are just speaking movies, then I agree for the most part. Iron Man 2 kind of sucked. I liked Iron Man 3 for the most part though.

I'll give you the nuke through the wormhole, but where did these thousands of robots come from?

I'm talking about the Russian's robot suits.

To be fair, I saw him as very positive in the first Avengers movie.
-working on Arc tech to make his building energy self-sufficient.
-saved Cap's arse vs Loki, after being brought into the loop, but not formally brought into the team.
-was suspicious (rightfully so) of SHIELD's motivations behind their work on the Cube.
-pushed Cap to not just follow orders, told him they were not soldiers

As for the hero stuff-
Took out more aliens in New York than the others, except possibly the Hulk and/or Thor.

Made the informed sacrifice that stopped the invasion fleet, with the nuke (that shut down their command and control, before the rift was closed).

Granted, I haven't been able to go see Civil War yet, don't know how he impacts that.

Point taken about cap, but look now cap is rogue and playing the rebel against the government game and caused civil war.

He's pretty fricked up in the head at this point and given what's he's gone through I'd say it's pretty understandable. He should have a team of shrinks following him around doing university level research and therapy.

Cap needs a shrink more than him.

Goes to show you that military minds are stronger than civilian.

Again, I haven't seen Civil War yet.

But looking at the 2 hero's progressions:
Stark, military contractor, turned into vigilante anti-terrorist. Initially distrustful of government agencies (particularly intelligence), eventually feels overwhelmed by the perceived threats, wants to play ball with governments to protect humanity. Feels some guilt in what's going on, and a drive to stop it.

Rogers- super-soldier, becomes modern government operative, becomes disallusioned with modern society as well as the government, increasingly distrustful of anyone but himself. Wants to give Bucky a pass for killing tons of people (including a bunch of good SHIELD personnel recently), because "he's Bucky".

I have a pretty tough time with Bucky, as would people who would have known, for example, the dozen or so people he killed in WS alone. If he kicked my buddy into an aircraft engine, I'd say the hell with Cap. Wouldn't care if he was brainwashed.

Cap's love of Bucky was over the top and tiresome and really complicated his life. Reminded me of Walt's love of Jessie in Breaking Bad.

He started off refusing to hand over the suit to the US government. Then he had a couple bad days and did a complete 180. He's an egocentric flake.
