You think they're just blatantly breaking the law?

I do. But they're breaking it so secretly and cleverly that it has become an accepted practice.

Even when they are sued, they don't prove that they aren't breaking the law...they just create so much rigmarole that the plaintiff either settles out of court or walks away from the suit. Then they take their peazy fine and go home and bathe in thousand dollar bills.

when did "cooking the books" become legal? It's the definition of tax evasion. People go to prison everyday for this.

Word choice. It isn't legal, but it's "legal enough" to get away with it publicly. That's sad.

But what can anyone do?

So secretively and cleverly that numerous articles are written about the practice and we're even discussing it on an internet message board. When the IRS and Justice Department update their information technology and find out about this egregious practice, there's going to be hell to pay.

Right. Look, I was being unfair. It could very well be that they his team asked for numerous methods of compensation and were met with a "take it or leave it" answer, that happens. In that case, it could very well have been his only option if he wanted them to make a movie based on his story.

There is no mention of tax rates anywhere in the article,

yea, so that means it isn't about trying to skirt IRS laws, because it's just fun to spend millions on law offices and accounting firms to "show a loss".

At what point did I insinuate something even vaguely close to the idea that this somehow started "when Obama was elected"..

I mean their exact practices. Everyone knows they do it, but they never open their books and admit to how and what they actually do.

Oh I'm certain they do. Doesn't take away the illegality of it all.
