Just saw it yesterday. Anybody else check it out yet?

My lady and I saw it yesterday. We both hated it. We haven't read the book.

I love every PT Anderson movie outside of 'The Master' (haven't seen it yet), but this was just a directionless mood piece. There was so many things brought up in the first half of the movie, but they never really got fleshed out.

The only character that ever approached interesting was Josh Brolin's, but even that fizzled. Joaquin Phoenix played his role well, if the role is "completely devoid of any feeling, except for one scene (the memory of him and the girl in the rain)".

It's overlong, as well. The last 30 minutes I was just desperate for it to end, not because I thought something would happen, but because I knew nothing would.

The worst part of the film has to be the overlay narration by the girl at the very end of the movie. It tries to be profound, but just comes off as an embarrassing ode to a completely hollow movie.

It looked nice, though, and I'd be willing to give it a second viewing at home, just to see if I missed the entire point.

Saw it the other day. I liked the characters, the actors, and the overall atmosphere but the total product didn't work for me. I've seen someone else suggest the idea of Owen Wilson and Joaquin Phoenix switching roles and I think that would be awesome. I'm not normally an Owen Wilson fan but I liked him here and I think he would have done a better job with some of the comedy elements.

I was really excited about this film and big fan of PTA. But this was the first time since the Phantom Menace that me and my wife walked out on a movie. What a steaming pile of shite.

That's when the whole plot of the movie unfolded.

Watched it over the weekend and thought it was good detective fiction. Though I can see how if you watch it in the theater it might not be as enjoyable since with the interwoven plotlines and names spoken for faces that weren't on screen. A lot of the dialog was mumbled or spoken at a low volume so it helped that watching at home I could skip back on some scenes and watch again with the subtitles turned on.

By other than that I liked it.

If you read the novel and you are a Pynchon fan like I am, you would have liked the movie. I personally thought the book was brilliantly executed into a movie, and that is no small feat for a Pynchon novel.

I loved the complexity of his hallucinations, and how PTA didn't make it obvious.
