that is Urban Cowboy. For us that were around when this movie came out, you got to see its impact on culture.. It sprung a new fashion in clothing, music and nightlife for people who had never been "Cowboy"

The music was awesome - Micky Gilley, Johney Lee, Charlie Daniels, Bonne Raitt, Anne Murry, etc

Basically made Gilleys a household name and everybody had a pair of snakeskin boots Plus, every joint had a mechanical bull after that movie...

Join me and remember this culture changing flick.

Yep. Sold millions of hats, and I think it spurred the popularity of longneck beer bottles. You'd see them in bars more after that, then they became available in retail stores. I remember being excited when I saw the first ones in stores.

And people played the shite out of that soundtrack.

Debra Winger...

Was great.

Everyone remembers Officer and a Gentleman and Terms of Endearment.

But I loved her in Urban Cowboy and Forget Paris.

Deborah Winger in that movie was about as beautiful and sexy as a woman can be. Great film because it's got a real story.

I've said it before but Travolta was the main force behind 2 of the biggest cultural, fashion, and social trends of the last 50 yrs.

Saturday Night Fever basically brought disco culture and music to the masses and Urban Cowboy sparked the "everybody wants to be a cowboy" phase of the early 80s.

I love Urban Cowboy not only because its a great great, underrated movie, but because it's one of the those rare pictures that captures a time period perfectly.

This movie is a must see.

All of this... After Urban Cowboy came out, there were concrete cowboys every where.

Of and that disco thing

She plays great white trash. Same in Officer and a Gentleman.

This movie also taught me about Mezcal Tequila. The tequila with a worm.

Wes said you see visions if you eat it.

This movie ruined the majority of the bars in southern Louisiana (outside of New Orleans).

One of my all time favorite movies. Seems like it woulda been a cool time to be in Houston. All the country folk all moved to the same part of town and brought their culture with them. Most of my family was part of that and they always had some cool stories.
