Absolutely not. The Empire Strikes Back is a favorite with fans and that's about it. I like Empire more than Star Wars but The Godfather Part II is my second favorite film of all-time. The writing is incredible and it features one of the greatest on-screen performances of all-time with Al Pacino as Michael Corleone.

Way to take my quote completely out of context.

Actually, yes. The Godfather Part II is completely unconventional. It's a wonderful film and better than Empire, but it does not define what a sequel should be to its predecessor. The Godfather Part II is completely nonlinear and demands your concentration in a way the original didn't. It's a fantastic movie, but you don't see many attempting to emulate it as far as a sequel is concerned.

That's not what he was arguing. Otherwise he wouldn't have made the comparison. The Godfather Part II and The Empire Strikes Back are two totally different films trying to do two totally different things. Everyone and their mother knows this.

It's a good thing Lucas cut the Wampa attack scenes inside the rebel base on Hoth or you would be lumping it in with The Phantom Menace.

Well, if you don't want me to laugh at your stupid shite, don't say stupid shite.

Empire is a fashionable, recent fanboy favorite. It's a good movie, but the dialog is corny, some of the plot points are out of place and it cannot stand on its own as a movie.

I do agree with your Star Wars cantina reply to the other guy, btw. Some people seem to need to have everything spelled out for them, but the cantina gives people a feast of images that allows the audience to fill in its own blanks.

Fashionable? Recent...favorite?

Wow...how out of touch are you? How old are you?

Empire has been considered the best of the OT by the majority since the mid-80s. Where have you been?

No. It hasn't. Honestly, the only place I see that level of support is on this board.

No one dislikes Empire, but the majority prefer Star Wars. The majority of people in the industry agree, as does pop culture, evidenced by the fact that Star Wars lines are quoted far more often than Empire's. shite, the most famous line from Empire is actually a misquote.

Well, the American Film Institute agrees with me. Some queers on message boards agree with you. I suppose why I, um, get why you'd prefer the latter position, but mine does not need to be defended.

The original is the best movie in the franchise. It works much better as a standalone film than Empire.

I agree Star Wars is the better stand alone film, but it's not the better film. The fact of the matter if you make "stand alone" the defining portion of it being the best film, then the second chapter is doomed every time. The point of the first film is to establish the universe, characters, and a moment of temporary closure. The second really should hardly have a beginning and end. It should just be drama with the characters and to build them up before the final confrontation. This is why often the second chapter is my favorite in many epics. It's difficult to pull off, but the films that do are simply magnificent. That's my opinion at least.

I don't know which is the "better" movie but if both movies were on at the same time, I'd watch Empire ever time.

Totally agree! The Godfather 2 is probably thought of as the better movie but I'd watch Empire any day!

Star Wars EP IV: My daughter had a friend, a girl, who would come to the lake house a few times each summer. Early 20s, dancer, fit, would strut around in her bikini all day and it was just awesome. she was just incredible to look at.

Empire EP V: One day I tried to teach her to water ski. Her bikini top got torn loose in the prop wash and we all saw her virtually naked when she came out the water as her skis started to plane. Meh. Nothing special when her top came off. Kinda disappointing, actually.
