I love sitting down with a glass of whisky and knocking out a few episodes before bed
Great show and the modern music is an awesome addition.

Holy shite, y'all love it

I'm not trying to hate on the show...it's obvious there is something I'm missing. It could be that I was just not feeling it...I think I got into episode 2 or 3 before leaving for a short trip, so that could be why. I'll probably try it again because I didn't hate it. I think I just got distracted...which could also mean the show isn't my thing.
It took me a couple tries to get into it. The pilot is a bit... difficult to grasp. But if you make it through episode 2, you should be pretty hooked, and if you aren't hooked by episode 3, then you won't like it.
To me, it's absolutely fricking phenomenal.

I liked it a lot. Needed closed caption to understand Arthur though. That rascal has a thick accent.
I find that at some point just about every character says something I can't understand. Closed captions are definitely the way to go. Tom Hardy is bloody impossible for me to follow sometimes.

I tried it once for about 20 minutes. It seemed like some stupid modern beer commercial, and I hated the flames shooting out of the steel mill windows and doors. I just looked like a show where style and appearance is everything.
I'll try it again, and at least finish the first episode since the reviews are so strong.
I'm not big into tv shows, but I enjoyed Peaky Blinders. I think they try to really show off the era for some effect, but it definitely is not everything. It has a strong story, and I thoroughly enjoyed the characters. I think you'll be satisfied if you give it another go.

I blew threw the first season in like a day, and blew through 4 episodes of the second season, but wanted to wait for my s.o. to watch the rest of the season. Its on the back burner right now.
Great show.

First episode was great.
He wasn't brought up in the thread but I thought Sam Neil was really good.
Loving the music and atmosphere.

I want to watch it again with subtitles. I probably missed half of Tom Hardy's dialog.

You would be blind if you didn't take a peak!

Generally, the shows that this board praises are right in line with my own likes. But, this one felt like a disconnect. Granted, I only watched the first episode. Did anyone else here that loves it take at least a couple episodes to start feeling that way?

100%. Takes a bit to get going.

I could see how some people would get turned off with the modern music in a period show but I loved the music and thought it worked brilliantly with the show
I love the music. Im through episode 3 and it's good, but not great for me yet. Im waiting for it to get great. I was hooked on Breaking Bad after the first twenty minutes and started True Detective last night, and holy shite am I blown away. Im through 3 episodes with True Detective and it's comporable to Breaking Bad quality so far. Mcconaughey is killing it. I'll pick Peaky Blinders back up after True Detective is done.

Absolutely. Cillian Murphy is great in it as well.

I watched the first episode this afternoon and suspect there is a strong generational divide on this show. The music just didn't work for me given the setting and the show is trying too hard to be really cool; telling a story seems to be secondary. And all the flashes of fire are just annoying.
I will watch at least another episode or two but it's probably just not going to work for me.
