As the Batman?

What happened with JGL at the end of The Dark Knight Rises?

Why even have that scene if they weren't going anywhere with it?

Because it was part of the movie. If it had no meaning why put it in the film?

JGL would have been a much better follow up than Ben A.

Nolan's trilogy is not part of the DECU so that story is over

I would have a hard time imagining a worse Batman than JGL. Some 130lb nerd isn't beating anyone up.

Fair enough. But has there been any explanation of that scene?

If 5'7" is a problem then Tom Cruise shouldn't have gotten 2/3 of his roles. And the 130 lbs could be an issue but we've all seen actors undergo amazing body transformations for roles before.

He would have been absolutely horrible.

No amount of working out is gonna make JGL physically intimidating.

To show you that he was robin and the idea of batman lives on.

It's implied he went on to try to do good with what tools he was given. But it would have been a shitshow to follow his story, so it begins and ends there.

Ok. Still pissed about who they picked as the next Batman.

Not same continuity but that was setup as Nightwing reference.

What is exactly wrong with Affleck?

Affleck was the only thing that made BvS seem like a movie that wasn't directed by Tommy Wiseau.

goddamn son. JGL's characters real name in the movie is Robin. He finds the bat cave after Bruce moves to France. You tell me what the frick happens next.

To OP: Affleck was the best part of the DCEU outside of Zod before the WonderWoman movie.

JGL would be about the worst Batman I can imagine. And he'd be an even worse Bruce Wayne.

Exactly. His name is Robin. He's an untrained street cop. He'd be dead the first night he went out. He wasn't Dick Grayson or Jason Todd. I always assumed Bruce hands the keys over to JGL, who on his first night out gets murdered in the Batsuit and thats the end of that story.

Eventually Bruce would hear that JGL died, he'd return to Gotham, and he'd find and train Dick Grayson to take over.

...Dick takes on the name Robin in honor of JGL's character.

I think that Nolan didn't want to muddy an already overpopulated finale with an intricate character like Dick Grayson. JGL as an orphan beat cop who Batman entrusts with his legacy was more of a nod to the fans and a way to give Batman a happy ending without his totally abandoning Gotham.

It was far from a perfect solution, but naming JGL "Dick Grayson" would've had people expecting a fourth movie. Nolan's ending "killed" the Batman character for those who wanted an ending to the trilogy while not totally offending the Batman fans who would never want a Batman story to end with his death.
