I'm also Team Green. Kings don't get to choose their successors it never worked that way in real life or in the lore of ASOIAF.

So why exactly would that make you Team Green? Nobody voted for the idiot Aegon either.

Because by law the King's eldest son is next in the line of succession. By trying to pass the throne to his daughter instead he was denying his son his birthright and Aegon would have been justified in rebelling against his father.
A real-life example happened to Henry II when he tried to take lands from his older sons' inheritance to give to his favorite youngest son Jon.
Edward VI chose his cousin Lady Jane Grey as his heir and after he died she would go on to become known to history as the 9 day queen. Nobody cared that she was the king's chosen heir. Law and precedence are more powerful than a dead king's wishes.
