The Chinese were the bad guys until China, the real China, flipped their shite. That's a big part of the reason the movie has been held up for so long.

Speaking of Red Dawn...is there a more well known "unknown" actor than Powers Boothe. I swear he turns up all the time and he always kills whatever role he plays. Whether it be a downed pilot in Red Dawn, Jim Jones or Curley Bill this guy nails everything.

Sometimes it's hard to get the younger generation to understand just what a movie like this meant to us Late Cold War kids who were around 13 or so when it came out. No kidding... We were scared shitless that something like that would actually happen. Movies like The Day After and Wargames had us all ready for nuclear war, and we HATED the Soviets on a daily basis. When Red Dawn came out, it was like a catharsis. Kids like us just fricking up the Commies. It was like patriot porn. We couldn't get enough of it. I still get a charge out of watching Red Dawn!
