I think they've bounced back this season. They focused way too much on plot for seasons 6-8. But with the the entirety of season 9 occurring at the wedding weekend it's forcing to do a lot of flashbacks and random stories for purely humors sake

Barney and Robin was a big mistake. Ted continually going back to robin is also a big mistake. The show suffers from the same thing dexter did. Both those shoes should have been 5-6 seasons at the most. They both got stale as hell without furthering the overall plot and characters.

Stating that a show has "jumped the shark" implies that it was good at some point.

This. Barney was the perfect lothario. Forcing him into monogamy killed the show IMHO.

They effectively took Barney, the best character, out of the show.
They needed to wrap this show up a season ago. Now were stuck with an awful storyline and ridiculous episodes.
