Henry Cavill, who has played Superman in three films, is parting ways with Warner Bros., sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. Though neither side is confirming, the British actor, who first donned the blue suit for 2013's Man of Steel, and then starred in 2016's Batman v. Superman and last year's Justice League, is said to be hanging up the red cape.
That's because the studio has shifted its focus to a Supergirl movie, which will be an origin story featuring a teen superheroine. This effectively removes an actor of Cavill's age from the storyline's equation given that Superman, aka Kal-El, would be an infant, according to DC lore.

Yeah, he was. I hated the way he was portrayed in both MoS and BvS, but I knew he was perfectly cast. I do like how Joss Whedon started off Justice League with Superman footage reassuring the audience “Look, ignore the previous assclown, I understand Superman as a character.” From that point forward I was ready to give the film a chance in a way I never gave BvS.

Cavill is underused and underrated in almost everything that he does. He was money in Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Not the best idea for CGI-upper lip Superman to be literally the first thing you see in the film.

They killed that sequel before the first one was released. Cavill wasn't scheduled to have a major Superman role in another DC film. But there was talk that he would be making appearances in films, similar to Nick Fury and Iron Man being the thread through the Marvel Studios films. But that was a while back and the only recent rumor had Cavill cameoing in Shazam.
