Apocalypse Now and Gunsmoke huh..

This thread is a joke but am I the only one shocked that Ford is only 4 years younger than Hopkins? Holy hell

I've always thought Ford is overrated. Doesn't display a lot of range.

If you watch his early work he's the same guy...Star Wars, American Graffiti.

If you follow his later work...Air Force One and Clear and Present Danger

He's the same guy.

But then you get to The Fugitive and he's only the same guy as in Witness.

Look, I like Ford... But his understated swagger persona, mumbling...has been done to death.

Ford is one of those actors that you just watch for him. I guess they call that a movie star. He's never really done anything but Ford in bad situations.

An actor is not only someone that can do Shakespeare,

that being said Anthony does not have the charisma or charm of Ford, nor the ability of the comic side to pull off an Indy or Hans like Ford.

Ford on the other hand could not pull off many of Hopkins roles.

All things being equal Ford is better box office cash;

As said of Paul Muni...paraphrase here, it is better to have 10 Bette Davis' (that can't act) than one Paul who could out act anyone.

I think Ford was awful in Blade Runner.

He didn't have the strongest performance - but he didn't need to. He was a solid center of the film.

Hopkins.

This isn't really a question. I was wondering if this was what the thread would be about, but was kind of hoping it was actually shite these two going to war with each other over something.

So you're saying Hopkins is the better actor.

Not in the way you would think, Ford is money in the bank for a title, Hopkins is going to give you a strong performance; but can not and never could be a draw on name alone.

So the question is box office gold vs a strong acting job?

If you were a studio head what do you want, a star that is box office gold or just another actor you can get off the stage anytime?

Ford is by far the better product, Anthony is just another in a long line of stage actors.

I have watched Anthony since the 60's and The Lion in Winter, he is a good actor nothing special. He is not Paul Muni, Paul was a great stage and movie actor.

Does an actor also include talent of a nature of traits, like charm?

Earl Flynn was not a good actor of the stagecraft school, but was box office gold and Earl is in the top 50 male star of the big screen all time, as is John Wayne.

Would you take a Hopkins over Earl, John or Ford for a role in a movie your producing and need box office?

Personality and body language play a major part in being an actor as does ability to deliver a line. Will Rogers was a master of line delivery and he could entertain an audience with just roping abilities and timing his stories to a delivered punch line.

Is Will a top actor, no; but he is one of the all time greats in commentator, with his comic style yet to be seen again.

If you take away the British accent, Hopkins is a OK character actor.

He didn't have a British accent as Hannibal...I get that he seems to always play the charming, smartest guy in the room, but watch him in Proof or The Human Stain. Outstanding actor

Bryan Cranston can play any role portrayed by Harrison Ford and exceed him

Ford will always be more iconic, he's the classic action hero, the face of two of the biggest franchises in movies. But Hopkins is a far superior actor, and his roles have been carried by his skill as an actor.

I'll always favor Harrison Ford though, his roles have been fantastic, and he's the only major character from Star Wars to succeed elsewhere (apparently an incredible feat)
