It may have been a risk at first, but I think it's a lock now to crush it at the box office. Going up against the Rock in Hercules was GotG's biggest obstacle, but that movie's marketing was such a cheese fest that Lucy out performed it at the box office last weekend. Lucy. The movie that is so ridiculous that the premise itself is nonsensical. (That said, I'll still go see it because... Scarlett Johansson and Luc Besson)

But still, Hercules is underperforming and I don't think that's a symptom of movie-goers being tired of movies, I think it's that they marketed it horribly. GotG has just the right amount of cheese in the trailer and looks bad arse. Even if it was the first Marvel movie, I think it would do well. They are definitely cashing in a bit on Marvel's brand, but I would venture a guess and say a lot of people still don't know that GotG is a Marvel title, even if they want to see it.
