FWIW the real Intercity Firm of West Ham United was pretty badass in the day of rampant hooliganism. After they kicked your arse they would place a calling card on your forehead that read "You've just been served by the Intercity Firm"

i talked to a brit about this movie and he apparently doesn't understand what movie characters are either because he immediately brought it up

I think maybe the knowledge that Wood really is queer fricked it up for you.

I liked it. He wasn't supposed to be badass. Far from it. He was a bookish Harvard kid who gets toughened up a bit.

And their club song is awesome, though I have no idea what it's supposed to mean.

It's a 1920's era song that was adopted by the team but has no correlation to soccer or sport however.

It seemed to fit for fans of a team that by their own description is "mediocre." The bubbles possibly being their hopes for the team's success every year - hopes that inevitably die.

That's the only explanation I can come up with, anyway.
