Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.

Looks good.
I watched the 1995 movie last night and I'm a little mixed.
It was an interesting movie and not overly Japanese weird and even a little restrained which I appreciated but I had a real hard time caring for Major. I don't know why. She just feels cold. I felt more for her partner and the rookie more.

all style, no substance. what a letdown. the original is one of my favorites.
i dont know what i expected from the guy that made snow white hunstman, but it's probably not totally his fault. hollywood writers just dont have a frickin clue. abandoning the existential crisis that Kusanagi has for a fricking origin story, give me a break
this will probably be a slightly better Aeon Flex/Ultraviolet. that being said, the effects look great and I think they nailed the city.

You can tell all thatbfrom the trailer?
And while there was an existential edge in the 1995, it certainly wasn't a crisis and terribly handled

it's been a while, i watched both movies and both seasons of the tv show all in pretty close proximity, so it's kind of a blur.

given the names involved and what theyve shown, i certainly feel that way. I hope that I will be pleasantly surprised

Well, it can't be worse than Lucy... Right?

The effects look impressive but that's about it.

Looks fricking awful. All they seemed to have done is take a few scenes from the original and make the Major a complete bitch.
The trailer doesn't seem to have touched the actually premise or tone of the original.
And Scarlet Johansson is completely wrong.

If this can be made why can't Akira?

One of the whitest women in Hollywood playing the lead in a Japanese movie.
Makes sense.

Scruffy, brother.... Ima hafta go against you and the other naysayers on this one.
I'm actually feeling a lot better about this thing after watching that.
I think it's got a lot of Blade Runner respect going on and the trailer doesn't seem to be a collection of "all the good parts...there will be no other good parts" parts.
I think they are trying to hook ppl not familiar with the existing series while showing those who are enough to prove their intentions.
And as for ScarJo "playing Asian"...
...I guess she's "Chloe Bennet Asian".

Im not usually on the anti-whitewash train. But this is up their with Goku being white in its stupidity.

Looks amazing. Like how a true Cyberpunk should look.
I think the last, great Cyberpunk movie was Blade Runner.

Funny how this is a big deal in the US, but in Japan no one cares.
quote:
In Japan, fans of the manga were surprised that the casting caused controversy with many already assuming that the Hollywood production would choose a white actress in the lead role, since they consider that not too much attention should be paid to the physical appearance of the main protagonist because the dominant themes in Ghost in the Shell are the nature of self-identity and how it becomes affected with the use of different cyborg bodies that host human cyber-brains.[32] Sam Yoshiba, director of the international business division at Kodansha's Tokyo headquarters (the company which holds the rights to the series and its characters) said, "Looking at her career so far, I think Scarlett Johansson is well cast. She has the cyberpunk feel. And we never imagined it would be a Japanese actress in the first place... this is a chance for a Japanese property to be seen around the world."[32][33]

Pretty sure this will be a disaster like aeon flux

I never imagined it would be a Japanese actress. Major doesn't really have a Japanese feel to her.
I just don't like the choice of ScarJo.

Looks good. Scarjo is so sexy

I don't know, man. Her in that white body suit gives me a chub. And that's always a good thing. Always.
