Ghost in the Shell - Americans complain of whitewashing, Japanese fans love it

Can we not step on our own feet over all this?
Part in bold really got me - the anime is considered a classic.
Clearly, the Japanese had no problem with it.
I have yet to go see it. Maybe I will this weekend.

I dodn't get the outrage over it outside of people needing something to bitch about.

I don't care that they white washed it. I just think the changes to the story and the choice of ScarJo were both awful decisions.
And btw, the Japanese are not a good barometer for anything.
Hell, that country singlehandedly supports the Resident Evil franchise.

It isn't as if anime or Japanese-made video game protagonists ever look remotely Asian. I actually think Scarlett looks a lot like her anime counterpart.

As for the movie, I didn't go see it, not because of "whitewashing," but because it looked bad.
Johannsen's acting looked stiff even from the trailer.

They could've had all-Asian cast and it still would've sucked. Movie was frickin terrible
