Basically, he sold it for billions and expected Disney to use his ideas for the sequels. Instead, Disney kicked him to the curb and made a film for the fans. That had to really kill him considering the adversarial relationship George has developed with the Star Wars fanbase. Here's what George had to say about the Star Wars sequels:

“I sold them to the white slavers that takes these things, and…,” Lucas said before laughing and deciding it better not to finish.

The father of “Star Wars” also opened up about why he and Disney were split on their decisions for the franchise’s future.

“They looked at the stories, and they said, ‘We want to make something for the fans,’” Lucas said. “They decided they didn’t want to use those stories, they decided they were going to do their own thing. … They weren’t that keen to have me involved anyway — but if I get in there, I’m just going to cause trouble, because they’re not going to do what I want them to do. And I don’t have the control to do that anymore, and all I would do is muck everything up,” he said. “And so I said, ‘OK, I will go my way, and I’ll let them go their way.’”

Without Lucas you have no Star Wars. I don't care if he drives to Disney World every Sunday and kicks Bob Iger in the nuts. He's earned the right to bitch all that he wants.

What he is butthurt about is the huge backlash he got over the first 3. He incorrectly thought the spectacle of CGI was the reason people loved the original trilogy. It was characters and story development. I think it kills him that people did not see what he sees in the first 3. I think it probably pisses him off even more that Disney was right and he was wrong. Episodes 4,5, and 6 were fan films. 1,2,and 3 was some political soap opera with weak characters and cool lightsaber fights.

And Disney paid to do what they want.

He wasn't butthurt at all?

He admitted they didn't want him involved. He agreed and really hasn't made a fuss about it. It's probably just a bit hard for him right now since this is the first Star Wars he hasn't been involved with.

Lucas sold it to Disney for the fans. He was too old to make another trilogy and could have said frick the fans and held out the rights until he died.

Other than the Iger part, I agree actually.

But he should have never sold then. And he should have had the foresight to do better the first go round. But yeah, he can still complain.

He called Disney white slavers. That sounds a little butthurt to me. I do agree he has earned the right to say what he wants. I just wonder what made him think they were going to keep doing his stories.

He sold his right to have any say in the franchise. I like GL but to cash a 4 billion dollar check then complain that you dont like what they are doing is not a good look at all.

Especially considering they just released a film that is crushing box office records.

I'm certain that he knew that they would take his characters way out of his comfort zone when he sold them. After decades of his having to listen to people bitch about the Star Wars franchise, now he gets his chance to be one of the complainers. I'm sure he gets the humor of that irony.

Lucas's problem with the prequels is that he was a complete and total micromanager. He approved everything and trusted no one but himself. That wasn't the case with the original trilogy. He allowed people to collaborate with him and even deferred to better ideas given to him by someone else. People forget that he didn't direct the final two films in the original trilogy. He was a team player in those days. But then he became part of the system. He believed he was infallible. That's why the prequels failed.

I agree.

God I wish Lucas would come out with a Plinkett style review of TFA. Would be awesome payback for all the shite he's taken on the internet for the past decade.

He's got four billion reasons not to be butthurt. I'm sure he'll get over it.

I see nothing wrong with what he said honestly. And I'm not some GL fanboy either. He had ideas. Disney had different plans. They have every right to do it the way they wanted to. He knows that and says as much. Doesn't mean he has to be happy about it; it's tough feeling unwanted or to see your creation taken in a direction you never intended. But that's what he gets for selling.

That's because he's worth $5 billion already.

Good for him, doesn't make him any less of a prick. He's acted like a class A royal a-hole about the whole thing.

Charitable actions don't make up for it.

He has the right to bitch, but I have the right to call him a pussy and laugh at his seller's remorse.
