What would the present day or modern equivalent be of Bill the Butcher and his thugs?...

Also is the square where the five points meet actually Times Square in new york?

Columbus Park on the edge of Chinatown is the present day sight of Five Points

Correct - the intersection is now Worth and Baxter streets.
